Common use cases

  • Keep track of where equipment is located

  • Identify machines and tools

  • See equipment that hasn’t been seen for a while

  • Track equipment between job sites

Requirements

  • You have access to Infobric Equipment

  • Equipment is registered in the system

Labels

Labels are used to identify equipment manually. Each label has a unique ID and is designed to be attached to equipment in harsh environments.

When a label is scanned, it is linked to the equipment and a position is recorded using the phone’s location services. This makes it possible to see where the equipment was last detected.

The label ID is used as the equipment’s unique identifier in the system.

Tracking devices (trackers)

Tracking devices are used to automatically collect positions without manual scanning.

They can use different technologies, such as Bluetooth or GSM, depending on the need for accuracy and update frequency.

Bluetooth-based tracking works by signals being picked up by other devices in the network, while GSM-based tracking sends position data via the mobile network.

Trackers are often used for equipment that is:

  • More expensive

  • Business-critical

  • Moving between different locations

Tracking via vehicles

Through integration with Infobric Fleet, vehicles can contribute to tracking equipment.

Vehicles with a trip log can act as mobile storage locations where equipment is linked to the vehicle. The position is then updated automatically via the vehicle’s hardware.

This provides a better overview of equipment that is transported between different locations.

Tips!

  • Labels are an easy way to get started with tracking

  • Trackers provide more automated tracking

  • Combining labels and trackers gives the best coverage

  • Equipment not seen for a long time may need follow-up
